Eskom Uganda Limited Hands Over Sanitary Facilities to the Uganda People Defence Forces, UPDF

On 16th January 2020, the EUL MD, Ms Thozama Gangi handed over sanitary facilities to the UPDF community detach. The UPDF Detach is located in Uganda Electricity Board, UEB Village, East Ward in Njeru Municipality in close proximity with Nalubaale Power Plant which is operated and maintained by EUL. 

The project of constructing the sanitary facilities was undertaken by EUL within the wider framework of Health under our Corporate Social Investment. EUL has since inception supported communities on projects related to health, education, sports and environment around Buikwe and Jinja Districts.

This intervention affirms EUL’s continued commitment to providing value driven initiatives under its Corporate Social Investments within communities around Nalubaale and Kiira Power Stations which it operates and maintains on behalf of the Uganda Government.

The fully furnished sanitary facility has ladies and gents sections (two toilets and two bathrooms on each side) respectively. Both sections have functional showers with urinals for the gents. The facility is connected to electricity for lighting and national water to sustain the community at the UPDF Detach.

The Commanding Officer First Battalion MagaMaga Headquarters, Lt. Col. Fred Mwesigye who was in attendance appreciated EUL for the good work its doing in the community through the corporate social investments and in particular the support it has rendered to the UPDF community. He pledged to continue supporting EUL to protect the national assets of Nalubaale and Kiira Power Stations.

The handover ceremony was also attended by the EUL Technical and Finance Directors, the Njeru Municipal Council Environment Officer, the area Local Councillor one and the UPDF community.

Ms Thozama Gangi appreciated the relationship that the UPDF shares with EUL and the continued support of providing security around Nalubaale and Kiira Power Stations. She urged the UPDF community to maintain the sanitary facility as they uphold good health and safety standards.
